**Written by Doug Powers President Obama went to Arizona Wednesday afternoon, and according to Governor Jan Brewer who met him on the airport tarmac, the Book-Critic-in-Chief took her to task for something she recently published : He stepped off Air Force One at 3:28 pm and was greeted by Gov. Jan Brewer.

House Panel Subpoenas All White House Correspondence Regarding Solyndra

**Written by Doug Powers The Republicans don’t trust the White House’s review of the Energy Department’s “green” loan program to get to the bottom of the Solyndra debacle? Hard to believe. USA Today : A House Energy and Commerce subcommittee investigating the collapse of Solyndra voted today to authorize the panel to subpoena the White House to produce internal correspondence on its dealings with the bankrupt solar panel manufacturer

Latest Job Creation Initiative: National Monument Proclamations

**Written by Doug Powers Most US presidents since Theodore Roosevelt, with a couple of exceptions , have established national monuments via executive order. But I don’t recall very many doing so because they have the promise of being massive job creators : President Obama says his declaration of a deactivated Army fort as a national monument Tuesday will help create jobs, but a GOP congressional leadership aide says the claim “tanks on the straight face test.” Obama signed a proclamation Tuesday afternoon to designate Fort Monroe in Virginia’s Tidewater area as a national monument.

Colorado bellwether: Voters reject statewide tax increases

Proposition 103, the only statewide tax increase on the November ballot across the country, is going down tonight, according to number-crunchers in my home state of Colorado. If the results of this massive tax hike referendum had gone the big government/big labor lobby’s way, it would be front-page news tomorrow and Debbie Blabberman-Schultz would be crowing about it non-stop on MSNBC.

MF Global Missing a Little Bit of Money; Updated

Denver Occupier Promotes New Tone: ‘Hang and Shoot’ Bush Administration

**Written by Doug Powers In 2009, a weepy Nancy Pelosi denounced rhetoric she claimed was coming from the Tea Parties, claiming the protest could lead to a climate of violence.

Friday war document dump: Obama sends troops to Africa

All those Occupiers holding their “End the War!” signs better march on over to the White House. President Obama just announced he’s sending U.S.

Costs of the Occupiers; Plus: Friday showdown in NYC, Boston backlash, Austin arrests, Denver arrests

Solyndra CEO Resigns, Major Backer Evasive on Taxes; Will Media Report?

Two more shoes dropped in the Solyndra scandal today, but it remains to be seen their sound will stir the sleepy liberal lapdog media. Solyndra CEO Brian Harrison resigned last Friday, the Associated Press reported early this afternoon. Oh, and while the media of late have cheerleading the Democratic push for a new surtax on millionaires, don't expect the news media, particularly MSNBC, to note how a key Obama donor who pushed for the Solyndra loan has been delinquent on his evaded federal taxes for years

Holder Should Not Hold On

My further thoughts on J. Christian Adams’ book Injustice, which paints the Obama/Holder Justice Department and especially the Civil Rights Division as a place of reckless lawlessness.

Obama’s Teachable Truthiness Moment

I blogged last night about the Obama government jobs bill bust in the Senate. My coverage is here

Eat your peas. Kick off your bedroom slippers. Do your homework.

Shorter Obama press conference: Solyndra?

Taxpayers Were Almost on the Hook for an Additional $469 Million When Solyndra Went Under

**Written by Doug Powers The Obama administration was preparing to toss another very expensive life preserver, but Solyndra had already forever slipped beneath the rolling, green waves. From the Washington Post : The Obama administration’s Department of Energy was poised last summer to give Solyndra a second major taxpayer loan of $469 million, even as the company’s financial situation was growing more dire. The Energy Department was actively pushing to provide the second loan guarantee to the troubled solar-panel manufacturer in April and May 2010, when Solyndra’s auditors warned the company was in danger of closing due to its rapidly mounting debts and expenses, according to complete e-mails just released by a House committee investigating the original loan

The Book on Obama

WASHINGTON — Supposedly this White House has just made a furious attempt to sink a book, Confidence Men : Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President , by Ron Suskind, which came out September 20. Jay Carney, the White House spinmeister, spoke ill of it. Numerous former White House staffers spoke ill of it

Why Your Bank Is Charging More Fees

There are many observations that can be made about President Obama’s remark Monday to ABC News that businesses “don’t have some inherent right just to get a certain amount of profit if your customers are being mistreated.” In and of itself, this comment reveals much about his beliefs and knowledge (or lack thereof) on economics, consumer choice, and the private sector in general. But in the context in which it was made — Bank of America, Citi , and other banks’ recently announced debit-card and checking-account fees for consumers, which they are charging to recoup losses from the Dodd-Frank financial-overhaul law’s price controls on debit-card fees charged to retailers — what must first be said is that he was lecturing the wrong set of Fortune 500 corporations. The price controls were added to the law by an amendment from Senate majority whip Dick Durbin (D., Ill.).

McConnell Tries to Call Up Obama ‘Jobs Bill’ for Vote, Reid Blocks

**Written by Doug Powers In an email today, Barack Obama’s 2012 Campaign Manager wrote this : “But here’s something you can do: Find Republican members of Congress on Twitter, call them out, and demand they pass this bill.” Obama’s supporters must have responded en masse, because at least one Senate Republican did exactly what they were demanding. Well, he tried to anyway: In a lively spat on the Senate floor Tuesday, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) attempted call up President Obama’s jobs plan for an immediate vote in the upper chamber. However, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who supports the legislation, blocked the vote

A new Chicago-based minority voter outreach program: What could go wrong?

Hmmmm. “Operation Vote.” That’s the new name of a Chicago-run voter recruitment drive launched this weekend by Team Obama to target minorities and shore up his left flank.

When it Comes to Wealthy Campaign Donors, What’s in a Name?

**Written by Doug Powers This one’s better if you first read a quote from the First Lady from back in June : “See, what you all need to know about the President you helped to elect is that when it comes to the people he meets, Barack has a memory like a steel trap,” For even more evidence to validate that claim, fast forward the tape to Sunday’s $35,800-per-couple Seattle-area fund raiser : The fund raiser was held in the 27,000-square foot, art-draped home of former Microsoft chief operating officer Jon Shirley. Obama deemed the art collection unforgettable

Government Saving the Ozone Layer One Asthma Inhaler at a Time

**Written by Doug Powers On any given day I’d bet the amount of greenhouse gases Al Gore singlehandedly spews into the atmosphere more than trumps the chlorofluorocarbon footprint of all the epinephrine asthma inhalers in the U.S. combined.

Dem Senator: North Carolina Bridges Aren’t in Danger of Falling

**Written by Doug Powers To say that President Obama’s justifications to sell the “jobs bill” are overstated would be an understatement. Even members of his own party are on standby with belt sanders to smooth down the sharp exaggerations that are troubling their constituencies .
