ASSAILED by the right, Barack Obama socked it to the left on September 2nd, by backtracking on a new rule to mitigate air pollution. As proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)—a hate object to many Republicans—the rule would have reduced ambient ozone, a toxic gas created by power-plant emissions and exhaust fumes, to less deadly levels than America currently permits. According to the EPA, this would by 2020 have saved up to 12,000 lives and 2.5m working days and school days lost to the toxic effect of ozone on American lungs each year.
BARACK OBAMA began his first term trying to turn around a struggling economy and reassure an electorate consumed by anxiety about jobs. It increasingly looks as though he will end it in the same way. On September 2nd the government reported no net jobs were created in August
NINE of the ten campuses of the University of California—led by Berkeley—once again made it into an annual ranking of the world’s leading universities, published last month by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. All’s well in Californian higher education, it might seem. But that is not what Pat Brown or Clark Kerr would say, were they alive today. They were, respectively, governor of the state and president of the University of California (UC) in 1960, when California adopted a “master plan” that became an international model.

From Michelle Malkin: Michelle Obama is tightly focused on regulating restaurant nutrition and her anti-obesity campaign these days, so last night’s White House Super Bowl party stuck to the “Let’s move” theme — in a “Hey, there’s cheeseburgers and buffalo wings over there, let’s move!” kind of way: The menu, released by the White House: *Bratwurst *Kielbasa *Cheeseburgers *Deep [...]
From The Heritage Foundation: Last Thursday, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner sent a letter extolling the impact of Obamacare on small business. Geithner touted small business tax credits and the creation of health insurance exchanges as ways to enable a greater number of employers to offer health benefits. But reality tells a different story. A day [...]
From The Heritage Foundation: Gas prices are nearly 40 cents per gallon higher than what they were last year and show no sign of falling any time soon. Although there are plenty of ideas that could help lower prices, the Obama Administration is doing much more harm than good. We’ve written in great detail about the [...]
From NewsMax.com: A provision in the healthcare bill signed by President Barack Obama in March that requires all citizens who do not have health insurance to buy it or face a fine is opposed by 60 percent of Americans, a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll shows. From The Heritage Foundation: Yuval Levin has made the important point that, when HHS granted waivers exempting some employer health plans from Obamacare’s prohibition on annual benefit limits, it was the “kind of government by whim, and not by law” that is “the essence of the regulatory state.” It is indeed a very troubling effect, and [...]
From Prison Planet: Americans are divided over whether President Barack Obama or his predecessor has performed better in the White House, according to a new national poll. And a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday also indicates in the battle for Congress, Republicans hold large advantages over the Democrats among independents, men and blue-collar whites. [...]
From Right Wing News: Only the severely cognitively challenged could have failed to realize that ObamaCare would drive up the cost of medical insurance. But just to get it on the record: Health insurers say they plan to raise premiums for some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul in coming weeks, complicating Democrats’ [...]
