There are a lot of ways to measure job growth in America, some more accurate than others. Organizing for America (the political arm of the Democratic National Committee) created a chart to “celebrate” the first anniversary of President Barack Obama’s Failed Stimulus. Their chart attempted to cover up the fact that President Obama’s stimulus was a giant failure and came up 9 million jobs short of the number of jobs he promised to create by 2010.

Well, Matthias Shapiro of 10000Pennies video fame created his own jobs graph showing just how great Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) economic stewardship has been for the American people. It shows how jobs have plummetted under her leadership:

There are a couple of things we at Heritage would have done differently if we had created the above graphic (for example, Matthias uses the Labor Department’s Table A-1 seasonally adjusted total employed number for his benchmark, while Heritage uses the Table B-1 seasonally adjusted total nonfarm payroll number for our benchmark), but it still does a great job countering the Organizing for America graph below:

When holding the Obama administration accountable for their $862 billion stimulus, the key is to remember what the White House promised to deliver when they were selling the plan to the American people, and then compare that to what the objective results have been.When the Obama administration first unveiled their stimulus plan in November 2008, they claimed it would create 2.5 million jobs by the end of 2010. At the time, BLS reported that the U.S. economy had about 136.1 million jobs. But by January 2009, that number fell to 134.6 million jobs. Not so coincidentally, the Obama administration upped the job-creating magic of the stimulus to 4 million jobs by the end of 2010. Putting these numbers together, we can create an objective standard to judge both the President and his stimulus by: 136.1 million plus 2.5 million equals 138.6 million, and 134.6 million plus 4 million equals 138.6 million. So the objective, Obama-administration-created, BLS-data-verifiable, jobs-accountability number is 138.6 million.

According to the most recent BLS jobs report, the U.S. economy currently employs 129.5 million people, thus leaving President Obama’s failed stimulus 9 million jobs short of what was promised to the American people. This is the true picture of his stimulus:

A statue of Barack Obama as a boy was placed late Sunday night at the Jakarta elementary school the U.S. president once attended, after its display in a public park prompted backlash in the Indonesia capital.

The re-placement of the bronze statue a week after it disappeared from public view was a low-key event officiated by the school’s principal and three local education officials. Scores of students had been among the 500 watching when Jakarta’s mayor unveiled the statue in the park in December.

The likeness of a 10-year-old Obama smiling at a butterfly perched on an outstretched thumb was returned to its pedestal at 11:30 p.m. local time.

The late night schedule was aimed at finishing before almost 500 students arrive for school Monday, not an attempt to keep a low profile, said the main fundraiser for the statue, American Ron Mullers. The statue’s removal from the park also was done on a Sunday night.

Detractors had argued an Indonesia hero should be honored instead. A Facebook campaign attracted more than 50,000 supporters of the statue’s removal, and court action was initiated to force it.

Mullers accused them of politicizing a statue meant to inspire Indonesian children to follow their dreams.

“This is a statue of boy named Little Barry who went to this school; it’s not President Obama,” Mullers said.

Opponents had mixed feelings about the statue’s new position at Menteng 1 Elementary School where it remains clearly visible from the street through a front gate.

Heru Nugroho, leader of the Facebook campaign to remove the statue, said he was “not happy,” but declined to comment further.

Another opponent involved in the court action, Yenni Rosa Damayanti, said she was satisfied that the statue was no longer in a public park.

“We should not erect statues of other countries’ presidents in public parks when so many of Indonesia’s heroes are not immortalized,” she said. She added that she didn’t mind the new location because the school had history with Obama.

Central Jakarta Education Office head Zainal Soleman, who looked on as laborers were placing the statue a second time, said the school welcomed it.

“It will inspire and motivate the children every day,” Soleman said.

Obama, whose American mother married an Indonesian after divorcing his Kenyan father, went to school in the capital from 1967 to 1971 and is regarded fondly by most Indonesians.

Here’s a few that should leave you scratching your head.

Back on April 10th, I ran a story called, “An Indication At Walgreens That Obama’s Honeymoon May Be Just About Over.”

That indication was that Obama collectible plates had plunged in price,

Notice what we have there: loads of Obama kitsch, discounted down from $19.99 to $5.19. Let me tell you something, folks: You don’t mark your products down 74% if they’re selling.

Well, in the spirit of journalism, I thought the story deserved a follow-up.

It seems Big Lots in Greensboro also made the Hope and Change on a plate mistake and at this point, they’re just about ready to give them away to get them out of the store,

Wow, down from $19.95 to $2? So, given that Obama’s approval rate is still dropping, when do they go on sale in the Dollar Store?

Did you know these plates actually have their own web page? Oh, and the video on it is just awesome. It describes Barack Obama’s “confident smile and kind eyes.” They also note there is a strict limit of two plates per person at $19.99. After all, these plates are going fast!

And who wouldn’t want one of these plates to hang over the fireplace so that you could have Barack Obama watching over you — or, better yet, why not use it as a dinner plate? Then, as you finished your food, you could see Barack Obama looking up at you with his “confident smile and kind eyes”?

The following passage from Barack Obama’s speech to Latin American leaders will be one of those Rorshach tests for political perspective.  Those who hated the Bush administration enough will applaud it; those who think America is usually wrong will cheer; and the rest of us will shake our heads:

I know that promises of partnership have gone unfulfilled in the past, and that trust has to be earned over time.

While the United States has done much to promote peace and prosperity in the hemisphere, we have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms. But I pledge to you that we seek an equal partnership. (Applause.)

There is no senior partner and junior partner in our relations; there is simply engagement based on mutual respect and common interests and shared values. So I’m here to launch a new chapter of engagement that will be sustained throughout my administration.

Obama’s apologizing for being dictatorial … to Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales, and the Castros.  As for “dictat[ing] our terms,” we used to call that defending American interests.  When negotiating, people try to get the best terms for themselves.  We didn’t send gunboats to Venezuela or Bolivia during the Bush administration, and the only people seizing assets over the last eight years have been the Venezuelans under Chavez.

Once again, we have the new President embarking on the “We Suck ‘09″ tour, kicked off in Europe, where he felt the need to apologize for the last administration’s efforts to defend America’s interests on the international stage.  Obama likes to call this “smart power” and tells us we’ll get more by appearing humble than by pursuing our interests in the normal fashion.  So far, the rest of the world has applauded Obama’s performance — and gone on to reject our requests for economic cooperation, combat troops for Afghanistan, partnership with Russia against Iran, and North Korean continuation of the six-party nuclear disarmament talks without launching long-range missiles over Japan.

Guess who’s going to hang with Saudi King Abdullah again? Will he stoop even lower than he already has? Will he follow in Saudi-coddling George W. Bush’s footsteps and go for a kiss, hand-hold, or sword dance? Anticipation is building:

US President Barack Obama will visit Riyadh next week for talks with King Abdullah on Middle East peace, Iran and terrorism, on the eve of his long-awaited address to the Muslim world in Egypt.

The visit, which will represent Obama’s first steps in the Middle East as president, will come as he attempts to forge a new approach to revive stalled regional peace talks and tries to prod Iran to the negotiating table.

“The president will meet with his majesty King Abdullah to discuss a range of important issues, including Middle East peace, Iran and terrorism,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, adding that the talks would take place on the evening of June 3.

“The president believes it’s a chance to discuss a lot of important business and he thought it was a good opportunity to do that,” he said.

Gibbs however said that the decision to make the stop, did not arise out of any specific proposal discussed by Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in their high-stakes talks in Washington last week.

But senior Obama aides have hinted privately that any new US plan could involve an expansion of a 2002 Saudi-inspired peace initiative which several Arab states have been advancing.

The initiative calls for full normalization of relations between Arab states and Israel, a full withdrawal by Israel from Arab land, the creation of a Palestinian state and an “equitable” solution for Palestinian refugees.

Ahead of next week’s trip, which also includes visits to Germany and France for World War II commemorations, Obama will meet Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas on Thursday at the White House.

It take’s a cubist to understand Obama

“Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow (cocaine) when you could afford it. Not smack (heroin), though,”

Almost every American President before Barry, from Washington to Clinton to Bush, has had a pot addled past. Clinton purportedly tried and failed to smoke a joint, Bush was a boozer, but messed with coke and pot from time to time, Washington even grew marijuana on his farm. But as far as we know, none have admitted to smoking as much pot as Obama. He wrote extensively about his stoner past in his book Dreams of My Father, and in a 2007 interview stated “When I was a kid I inhaled frequently. That was the point.” Anyone who wonders what kind of future a pothead can have should take a hard look at Barack Obama.
