Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize, Nominated Only 12 Days Into Term
From HumanEvents.com:
President Barack Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today. By awarding Obama that prize, the Nobel committee has placed Obama in the same category as Al Gore, Jimmy Carter and the late terrorist Yassir Arafat. We could not agree more.
Nobel prizes are won for achievement, supposedly, in the arts, sciences and diplomacy. But the only diplomacy the committee rewards is that which weakens and demeans America. According to a New York Times report, the Nobel award cites Obama “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
The Nobelistas, according to that same report, also cite “Obama’s effort to reduce the world’s nuclear arsenal. ‘He has created a new international climate,’ the committee said.”
In 2002, they cited Jimmy Carter for, “untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.” But Carter has produced no solution to any international conflict. His efforts have failed to advance democracy or human rights — measurably — anywhere in the world. And where — outside the houses Carter has built — has he advanced economic or social development?
By these standards, Barack Obama is a success.
Five years later, Al Gore’s 2007 Nobel Peace Prize was given for his work on global warming. It said, he was “probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.” It was nothing more than a political rebuke to President Bush. And it occurred in the eighth year of global cooling since 1998.
Again, Gore compares favorably to Obama whose words have promoted measures to strangle the American economy and are — apparently since Obama learned to speak — a continuous alliteration of Bush rebukes.
In 1994, terrorist chieftain Yassir Arafat was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize along with Israeli statesmen Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin, “for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East” surrounding the Oslo Peace Accords that established the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Gaza.
Of course Arafat — who would go to New York and preach peace in English — would return to Jerusalem and shout his constant refrain (“To Jerusalem we are going as martyrs in the millions”) in Arabic. I am unable to find a single reference to his saying that in English.
Obama — by his rejectionist approach to Israel, his “open hand” appeasement of Iran’s nuclear weapons program, his coming rejection of General McChrystal’s request for 40,000 more troops for Afghanistan, and his utterly inept approach to foreign policy — can meet the Arafat-Carter-Gore standard easily.
Congratulations, Mr. President. You stand on the shoulders of three who have done much to harm America and reduce its influence and standing in the world. Their trio is now a quartet.
From GOPUSA.com:
This is absolutely unbelievable! I was going through my morning routine, and I saw an e-mail telling me that Barack Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize. The first thing I did was check my calendar. No, it’s not April 1!
The fact is that Obama DID win the Nobel Peace Prize. He has been in office nine months, has nothing to show for it on the international stage except to make America less safe, and he’s being rewarded for his efforts and accomplishments? This is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard!
For those people who need coffee in the morning, you can skip it today. The news should be a good enough shock to your system. As noted in the AP story on GOPUSA, Obama “won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for ‘his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.’”
Here is the full text of what the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s statement regarding Obama’s award:
“The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.
“Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.
“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.
“For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world’s leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama’s appeal that “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges.”
Ok, let’s break this down…. First, he’s being rewarded for his “vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.” What he has done with his policy of abandoning our nuclear defense program is to make America more vulnerable. Both North Korea and Iran are talking about and testing missiles with the desire to launch nuclear weapons. Obama wants to make that easier.
Next… “Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts.” Ok, this is the biggest joke yet. How many times did the U.S. and other nations go to the U.N. in order to get Iraq and Saddam Hussein to peacefully comply? Many, many times. How many times did the U.S. act through the military without first conducting rounds and rounds of diplomacy? Not once.
This is just so insane! But… it gets worse. We all know that the Nobel organization is the biggest left-wing lovefest in the world. Jimmy Carter as a winner? Al Gore as a winner? What a joke. But check this out…
According to the Nobel committee’s own web site, all nominations must be submitted by February 1 of the year awarded. This means Obama’s international accomplishments are based on him being president for twelve days! Twelve days!
“Nominations postmarked and received after this date are included in the following year’s discussions.”
Nobel Prize winner and former Polish leader Lech Walesa was stunned to hear the news.
“Who? What? So Fast?” a shocked Walesa said when reporters told him about the latest Obama win.
“Well, there’s hasn’t been any contribution to peace yet. He’s proposing things, he’s initiating things, but he is yet to deliver,” he said.
I’m sure the White House will be spinning this like crazy throughout the day, trying to somehow show that Obama, after just twelve days in office, produced enough accomplishments to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Former Congressman Joe Scarborough on his “Morning Joe” show has already received an e-mail from a White House official telling him to stop being such an a****le. Maybe this post will generate a White House message as well, because Obama has NO BUSINESS winning a prize for zero accomplishments, 12 days in office, and policies that take away freedom domestically and make Americans less safe to international threats. That’s quite a record.

UPDATE: The RNC issued a statement, and for once, it doesn’t go weak in the knees regarding Obama:
WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement today:
“The real question Americans are asking is, ‘What has President Obama actually accomplished?’ It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain – President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.”
