Obama’s Cynical ‘Humor’ at White House Correspondents’ Dinner
From GOPUSA.com:
We start our week with yet another double standard on display in the media. This time the setting is the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, DC. This event is the “who’s who” of the Washington elite: journalists, politicians, liberal entertainers. The list goes on and on.
Normally, comedians take this opportunity to poke fun at the current administration. Members of the current administration usually poke fun at themselves. But these aren’t “normal” times. This is the era of “hope and change,” remember? Except now, what’s changed is any level of decency or class being displayed by socialist elite. Just look at the comments made during the dinner and ask yourself how the coverage would be if a conservative had said it…
First, we have this gem from Barack Obama, which clearly sums up the relationship he has with the media:
In a reference to how his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel uses profanity in the White House, Obama (our president of the United States), said Emanuel is having a hard time with Mother’s Day. “He’s not used to saying the word ‘day’ after ‘mother,’” Obama said.
Obama also had this classic to make fun of his “messiah” complex: “I believe my next hundred days will be so successful that I will be able to complete them in 72 days,” he said to a roar of laughter. “And on my 73rd day, I will rest.”
Then, Obama took aim at Rush Limbaugh, RNC Chairman Michael Steele, and former Vice President Dick Cheney:
All in good fun, right? Well, then we have the comments made by “entertainer” Wanda Sykes. Here’s what the AP chose to report about her monologue:
Comic actress Wanda Sykes, the dinner’s entertainer, teased Obama for giving the Queen of England an iPhone during a recent visit. And she mocked first lady Michelle Obama for patting the queen on the back “like she just slid into home plate — way to go, queen!”
That’s it… that’s all that was mentioned about Sykes’ remarks. Here’s what else she had to say:
In addition, as the Washinton Times reports, Sykes also said — in reference to Palin’s daughter who is an unwed teenage mother — “I know Governor Palin. . . . She’s not here tonight. She pulled out at the last minute. Somebody should tell her that’s not really how you practice abstinence.”
So, Sykes is free to label Rush Limbaugh as the 20th highjacker, and there is not so much as a mention of it by the mainstream media? As it turns out, we just so happen to have an amazing comparison that shows how the media can be “outraged” at “insensitive” behavior.
As FOXNews.com reports, CBS golf analyst David Feherty “apologized Sunday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for a morbid joke that went bad in a Dallas magazine.”
If any of you watch golf coverage or have seen some of his golf commercials, you will know that Feherty mixes quite a bit of comedy into his golf talk.
Feherty was one of five Dallas-area residents who contributed to an article in “D Magazine” on the topic of “former President George W. Bush moving to Dallas.” As a bit of background, Feherty is a big supporter of the troops. He has a foundation established for their benefit, and has made several trips to Iraq.
In the magazine, Feherty writes:
“From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this though,” Feherty wrote toward the end of his column.
“Despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death.”
The fallout? Feherty issued a written apology for his comments. As FOXNews.com reports, “CBS Sports distanced itself from Feherty’s writing, saying it was ‘an unacceptable attempt at humor and is not in any way condoned, endorsed or approved’ by the network. The PGA Tour also criticized him for an attempt at humor that ‘went over the line.’”
So, there you have it. Feherty, who makes his living covering sports with a mixture of humor, sends a written apology for his statements. The media covers the statement, and CBS Sports issues a rebuke. The PGA tour also issues a rebuke.
On the flip side, the AP only covers some light comments by Sykes, but completely ignores her use of the 9-11 highjackers in an attempt at humor. Whether you find her comments funny or not, is not the point. The point is that the mainstream media ignored them, choosing only to hightlight a few other lines. What would have happened if a conservative linked some liberal with the events of 9-11. What if the conservative called Alan Colmes or Al Franken the 20th highjacker?
The media double standard has been apparent for years, but with Obama and the Democrats in power, it’s a whole new ball game. In the past, the rules were bent or ignored. Now, there are no rules. And these people actually call themselves professionals.
Compare the overall tone of this dinner to some of these clips from the Bush Administration:
