The Clintons are back in Washington
Hillary Clinton has accepted the offer for Secretary of State from Barack Obama within the last hour. [source]
I still can’t believe how the media distorted the image of Barack Obama during the election. He was made out to be a bipartisan centrist, and now he continues to appoint nothing but liberal democrats for all of his administration positions.
The media successfully shifted the image of both candidates to the right, making Obama look like a bipartisan centrist and McCain look like an angry right-winger nutjob, when in reality nothing could be further from the truth. McCain is one of the most liberal republicans we have ever seen in Washington, and even considered switching parties awhile back. He has been the target of much criticism from the republican party and was named one of the 10 best senators in 2006 by TIME Magazine for his bipartisanship. He has worked with democrats just as much as, if not more than, with republicans and voted with his party only 63% of the time! Compare to Obama’s 97%, the most liberal and highest percentage of any senator! I say we all boycott the mainstream media. They have killed journalism altogether.
Below is a list that compares the records and resumes of the candidates side-by-side; I will never understand how anyone could have thought that Obama was more qualified or more “centrist” or “bipartisan” than McCain.

John McCain
- Graduated with a B.S. from the United States Naval Academy in 1958.
- Served more than 22 in the Navy including commanding a large squadron of ships, and retired as a Captain. (Service includes six years as a prisoner of war, during which the North Vietnamese once wanted release him to make it appear to other POWs that elites like McCain were willing to be treated preferentially. McCain said no and was tortured horribly for turning downrelease.)
- Senate Navy Liaison, 1977-1981
- Member of the Arizona House of Representatives, 1982-1986 (4 years).
- Member of the United States Senate, 1986-Present (22 years).
- National Security Adviser, Dole/Kemp Presidential Campaign, 1996

- Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee from 1997 to 2001.
- Ranking Member of the Armed Services Committee.
- He was twice chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, in 1995–1997 and 2005–2007, and his Committee helped expose the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal. By 2005 and 2006, McCain was pushing for amendments to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act that would limit creation of off-reservation casinos, as well as limiting the movement of tribes across state lines to build casinos.
- Member of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs.
- Since January 1993, he has been Chairman of the International Republican Institute, an organization that supports the emergence of political democracy worldwide.
- In 1997, Time magazine named him as one of the “25 Most Influential People in America”
- He has sponsored 473 bills since Jan 21, 1993 of which 166 made it out of committee and 30 were successfully enacted.
- He has co-sponsored 811 bills during the same time period.
- In October 2005, he introduced the McCain Detainee Amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill for 2005, and the Senate voted 90–9 to support the amendment. It prohibits inhumane treatment of prisoners, including prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, by confining military interrogations to the techniques in the U.S. Army Field Manual on Interrogation. Although Bush had threatened to veto the bill if McCain’s amendment was included, the President announced in December 2005 that he accepted McCain’s terms and would “make it clear to the world that this government does not torture and that we adhere to the international convention of torture, whether it be here at home or abroad”. This stance, among others, led to McCain being named by Time magazine in 2006 as one of America’s 10 Best Senators.
- He and then-Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman wrote the legislation that created the 9/11 Commission.
- He and Democratic Senator Fritz Hollings co-sponsored the Aviation and ransportation Security Act that federalized airport security.

- Inn October 2003, he and Lieberman co-sponsored the Climate Stewardship Act that would have introduced a cap and trade system aimed at returning greenhouse gas emissions to 2000 levels; the bill was defeated with 55 votes to 43 in the Senate. They reintroduced modified versions of the Act two additional times.
- In the February 1999 Senate trial in the impeachment of Bill Clinton, he voted to convict the president on both the perjury and obstruction of justice counts, saying Clinton had violated his sworn oath of office.
- In March 1999, McCain voted to approve the NATO bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, saying that the ongoing genocide of the Kosovo War must be stopped and criticizing past Clinton administration inaction.

- Was also a strong supporter of the Gramm-Rudman legislation that enforced automatic spending cuts in the case of budget deficits.

- In 1993, he opposed military operations in Somalia
- He spearheaded the line-item veto bill.
- Spearheaded legislation to stop torture of prisoners of war
- He stood up against Rumsfeld’s Iraq strategy despite resistance from his party saying that more U.S. troops were needed; the following year, McCain announced that he had lost confidence in Rumsfeld. The change in strategy that resulted is credited for major progress made in the war.
- Worked with many democrats to stop the disastrous Harriet Miers nomination by George Bush. His actions led to the appointment of Roberts and Alito. They are two of the strongest constitutionalists on the court.
- Spearheaded legislation against Bush and the rest of his party including HMO reform, climate change, and gun legislation
- Spearheaded an effort to reduce spending.
- Spearheaded effort to stop earmarks. He has been nicknamed the sheriff for the amount of earmarks that he has stopped.
- He has voted with his party only 63% of the time.
- In May 2005, McCain led the so-called “Gang of 14″ in the Senate, which established a compromise that preserved the ability of senators to filibuster judicial nominees, but only in “extraordinary circumstances”.
- Breaking from his 2001 and 2003 votes against them, McCain supported the Bush tax cut extension in May 2006, saying not to do so would amount to a tax increase.
- Working with Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy, McCain was a strong proponent of comprehensive immigration reform, which would involve legalization, guest worker programs, and border enforcement components.
- In March 2008, McCain credited the surge strategy, which he had advised from the get-go in conflict with Donald Rumsfeld, with reducing violence in Iraq, as he made his eighth trip to that country since the war began.
